TROPHY KINGFISH are one of the highly sought after angling figthts. They are very unpredictable, sometimes screaming out three to five hundred yards of line in an instant, then turning on you and making a hard run for the boat, trying to get slack line to shake the hook. Bringing these Big Trophy Kingfish (Kings), to the boat is sometimes harder than catching them. On the Gulf of Mexico the Kings migrate. We are fortunite to have about seven or eight months in which to work on these Kingfish. I know that many will tell you that Big Kings are only here about three months and then gone, but that is not true.
the largest of the Trophy Kings are usually landed when everyone thinks they are gone. These great Kingsfish are loners. They do not travel with the school. Usually you will find the smaller (dinks, snakes) Kings showering through the baitfish. The grandmother Kings are laying off from the bait school a hundred feet of so. Bradenton, Florida is a great place to fish them, because the season is much longer here. We get both ends of the migration in Bradenton, and we have many huge Trophy Kings hanging around long after the big bait pods are gone. The area includes Tampa Bay, Clearwater, Palmetto, Anna Maria Island, Bradenton Beach, Longboat Key, Sarasota, and on down to Ft. Meyers. We fish them almost year around, and land the largest ones when most think the season is over. Come help us land some of these Trophys, it'll put a big smile on your face for a long time. One the nicer things about Trophy Kings is, that you don't have to book a long trip to be successful, usually a six hour trip is good.
